MEET WBB

#MeetWBB is an effort run by the World Bachelor in Business students since 2016. Launched by Amber Huang, Lavina Lim and Olivia Spivey from Class of 2019, #MeetWBB was inspired by the hugely popular “Humans of New York,” which feature simple portraits of New Yorkers together with a vignette about some aspect of their life. "You know how they say on the plane when the mask pops out of the ceiling: put it on yourself first, and then on your child? Well, that’s just it: you have to care about yourself before you can care about anyone else in your social relationships. We form so many connections and friendships that we forget that there's this one person that we're always gonna see in the mirror....

"In high school, I fooled around with the 'wrong crowd.' Yes we did dumb things, but my friends were willing to make sacrifices for me when the 'right crowd' just wouldn't.

It really hit home when my close friend got arrested. I saw the obvious wrong he was doing, but at the same time, I saw the systemic flaws that caused him to live his life that way. Most importantly, I didn't have...

"I was raised in a tight-knit white Jewish community in South Africa, where, although we were the minority, it was my entire world. My Jewish heritage consumed my identity. Being Jewish is more than a religion, it's a culture. While I take pride in being a Jew, my love for my religion made it difficult for me to embrace my Chinese ethnicity.

I'm half Chinese from my mom's side. My...

“My cultural background is difficult to explain. I was born in China, but I’m actually part of the Korean minority. Then my parents wanted to move, so I lived in Singapore for two years, and then the US, then South Korea, and then back to the US. I’ve been moving around my whole life.

I’ve always been interested in international politics because I can’t talk about that at home...

"I get bored easily.

In high school, I moved from Chengdu, China, to a boarding school in a small town in the mountains near Aspen, Colorado. During my first week in the States, I went on a ten-day backpacking trip deep into the mountains with a group of other students, strangers that I had just met. I had never been in the mountains for such a long time. I didn’t...

“I always knew I wanted a tattoo. I wanted something that physically represented my battle with type one diabetes, because it’s shaped who I am today. My tattoo says ‘I > vʌ 04.22.05.’ It means that I’m greater than my highs and lows as a type 1 diabetic.

Type one diabetes is an autoimmune disease. You can’t control much -- changing your diet or...

"I think I solidified confidence in myself in Hong Kong, in a city that was there not to judge you, but to help you and host you. There was a lot to find and it was beautiful, but I really learned who I am in Milan. Milan was really the year for me.

Living in a city whose pride and glory is its creative people, fashion, art, graphic design, interior design--every detail matters. It...

"I was six years old when I started circus performance. I rose to the varsity level, a step below professional, with a specialization in aerial silks and the trapeze. Circus artistry is not common in Italy, but I love it. When you are up there in the air, it's only you. The adrenaline, the energy you have… I don't even know how to explain it.

Circus is a performance. You need to be...
